"this only applies to those of you who have experienced patriarchy, misogyny, body shame, purity culture, religious trauma, gender limitations, sexual dysfunction, or codependency." SO, it is written for me!
Thank you Jen. Women need each other to speak the truth, to hear and hold it and, most importantly, to share it. I love the lantern metaphor. Providing some light so each traveler can make her own way. 🙏❤️
Awake has already been a lantern and source of such validation for me and it hasn’t even come out yet! (I’ve globbed onto every interview, podcast, post, etc. over the past couple weeks.) For the first time in 9 months, since my world imploded in an eerily similar way, I don’t feel so alone. Thank you, Jen, so very much, for sharing your vulnerability and pain with us, so that we all may feel connected as we traverse our own paths towards a hopefully healthier and more authentic next chapter.
I’m subscribing because I adore you and your perspective, though our politics collide sometimes. I’m hoping we all can have honest discussion unlike Insta. I’ve followed you and Brandon since Brandon wrote books. It’s been a long time. Remember “the workboot” campaign. It was the best. I pray for your Hatmaker and King tribe/people and of course Tyler 🩷
Jen, I still remember where I was when I read that post from you in 2020. Watching you recover and flourish HAS been a lantern for me. I walked a similar path starting in 2022. Thank you for your openness and honesty. I am most grateful for your accountability. You continue to show me the way to freedom and life, and I walk there on my own two feet.
Just finished Awake! Thank you…a sense of clarity seeing my experience described with feelings not advice. The quote from Rilke on page 161…pain and hope, they both matter!
It’s appalling that said journalist, a woman I once respected, found it acceptable to announce your divorce before you were ready to do so. I hope she has the decency to apologize.
Sorry to hear about what happened to you. I prayed for you halfway through reading this article. Where has this placed your in your faith now? I apologize on behalf of that Christian Journalist. We will be judged by the measure we judge others so don't worry about him. His own heart will be his judge.
Yes! I don’t want a life without books. I look forward to reading yours. And even before reading it I’m already inspired to start telling my story publicly.
Thank you for this. Rough week — sometimes it’s even harder to accept that what I’m getting now is actually really good instead of just “finally not bad.”
Your words have cheered me on from the sidelines and showed me what was possible as I remade myself and reshaped my story by becoming a nurse in my 50s 😳thank you for so generously sharing your story with us❤️ always rooting for you and your family
